Inclusive Reading

After some discussions I have had I realize that many people resist reading literature that may help to understand the perspectives of people of color. Reading these doesn’t mean you agree with everything, but it does add perspective to the conversation. We need to look within to understand what may be at the heart of this resistance.

I recently ordered a few books, including some poetry, by Alice Walker. One is entitled – Hard Times Require Furious Dancing – I mean the title alone makes it a treasure worth seeking! I may not look at them with the same perspective, but I love seeing, as best I can, someone else’s. And lo and behold, there is commonality in hard times. And other times. And I find I can dance alongside my sister. She has her moves and I have mine, and yet we can dance together. And it is good.

OMG! I love that analogy! DuBois also feels it’s a dance! He says something like…”I summon Aristotle and what soul I will…and we glide in guilded halls….” It is truly a dance! We each bring our different “flavor” and exchange those differences with one another until it’s a beautiful waltz….thanks for sharing this!
