My Talk on Ending Racism through Classical Education

A couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of speaking on a panel titled “Abolishing Racism: Arts/Music/Humanities” at the University of Maryland’s Bahá’í Chair for World Peace. It was an incredible experience where scholars in the visual and performing arts and humanities shared their research and engaged in vibrant discussions on this critical topic. One of the key aspects of my work (I am the 2nd to speak on the panel) is dismantling the racist elements embedded in American Christian theology. We cannot ignore how these beliefs have deeply contributed to the pain in our country, and until we confront and disavow them, we will not heal as a nation. I shared my personal experiences, research, and my belief that a true understanding of the classical tradition can offer a more inclusive and welcoming world than many realize. Thank you, Sheena Michele Mason, for this opportunity! Your work in racelessness is so incredibly important!
