This is a personal reflection on the necessity of the government’s efforts to combat racism and White supremacy, despite their imperfections. Reconstruction had its shortcomings, but it was ultimately undermined by White supremacy, leading to the rise of Jim Crow laws. Whenever we let White supremacy derail our attempts to address these issues, we regress. Instead of abandoning these efforts, we must enhance our commitment to continue the work; otherwise, we risk moving backward.
