A-B-C-D…the Great Books could be the key to our literacy
Anna my friend used them as a tool to teach
Baldwin used them as a map to new identity
Collins used them to exercise young minds
Du Bois had a love affair with their words and thoughts
A-B-C-D…the Great Books were read by these four and now me
Because there was a time where we couldn’t
Weren’t allowed to
And were kept from understanding who we are now…in America
Not Africa.
